Welcome to WaxhawHistory.com!  This site may sound like we are all about the past, but history in Waxhaw is being made every day.  This site is devoted not only in telling where Waxhaw has been, but where we are Today, and going Tomorrow, to make history.  The people and events of past have shaped who we are today, and today, we are shaping what Waxhaw will become in tomorrow’s history books.

We are a small, founded in 1889, but our history goes back beyond the 1700’s, and includes the Indians for whom the town is named after.  It is the disputed birthplace of President Andrew Jackson between North Carolina, and just South in South Carolina, with Waxhaw generally being accepted as the official location.  We are a small but growing town located in North Carolina, South of Charlotte, North Carolina, close to the North Carolina/South Carolina border.  To be exact, we are located at Geolocation 34.92476° N, -80.74318° E.  The town map is shown on this site, with some general locations and addresses marked.

Our fast growing community consisted of approximately 9,800 souls in 2010, and is estimated to be around 14,000 in 2016.  Our chartered size is around 11.5 sq/miles, but those who call Waxhaw home covers a considerably larger area.  We are famous for our antiques and small town shops, friendly atmosphere, as well as the train that brought Waxhaw to life in the 1800’s, and continues to roll through town several times per day.

The town motto of “Proud of Our Past. Passionate About Our Future” says it all about the families that currently live in Waxhaw, and a lot of the old generation families have stayed long after their ancestors have passed.  Waxhaw is a diverse community, with activities for all, and inclusive of the family life, with Christmas and Menorah activities, to Veterans activities, and more throughout the year.
